This weekend was my brothers wedding. It was a really nice wedding in Grass Valley and you can see pictures here. Although it had rained earlier in the week, the weather cleared up for the day of the wedding and the spring flowers were blooming around the house. It was very pretty. As was fitting for the bride and groom the ceremony was short and well written, the reception was over in just a few hours, and they were happily on their way to enjoy their honeymoon.
The wedding was my first attendance at a gathering of more than four people since I started SCD, and it made me pretty cranky. It was very hard to watch everyone eat the cake, which was two layers of what seemed to be very yummy flavors. Also, it was a fondant cake, and I've never had professionally made fondant, I've just had it the one time I made it, so I was bummed about not being able to even have a bite. On the up side, I brought my own food (mashed cauliflower, meatballs and marinara sauce, and a pork and spinach muffin), and I had quite a few people wonder where I got the meatballs with sauce as it looked so tasty. It made me feel a little less jealous about not being able to eat that delectable looking cake and about having to cart around a cooler where ever I went. But, I was still pretty grumpy about not getting a single bite of cake.
Another big SCD moment for the weekend was eating out at a restaurant for the first time since starting SCD. It was a Chinese restaurant, and Chinese food is pretty much all off limits as there is either soy or starch in everything. So I ordered steamed chicken with no flavor and added my own butter, salt and pepper when it came to the table. Even though my meal was very plain, it made me feel surprisingly like part of the group to have to wait for my food, and then eat with everyone else. It was nice, and I didn't have any physical reaction to the food. A success!
